PROGRAMA DE MÚSICA - MUSIC PROGRAM
The music program this year at Colegio Atabal has been enriched by the additionof isntruments. The students are now playing xylophones and glockenspiels while they sing. Music teacher Liz Stone istrained in both the Orff and Kodaly methods of music education, so the music program includes reading and writing music as well as having fun singing, moving to music, and improvising on the instruments. The small classes in the school make it possible for each student to experience a wide variety of instrumental sounds, and to make informed choices as to which instrument to use. The upper grades have listened to a wide variety of musical styles, from Mozart to Copland, and the 5/&th grade will be studying Jazz in the spring.
Thanks to the Atabal Parents, the students were able to enjoy visiting representing the different musical families. This culminated in a program by a trio, showing how musician work together to perform, We also enjoy the talents of professional John Dawson, who comes with hos guitar to sing with the children every week.
The music program is at present an extension of the English program, with most of the materials being from the English heritage. As the program continues, more songs from the Mexican heritage will be included

PROGRAMA DE VIOLIN - VIOLIN PROGRAM
El Programa de Violín de San MIguel de Allende se encuentra también en
Atabal como materia opcional. Se imparten 2 clases por semana dentro
del
mismo horario de la escuela sin que los alumnos descuiden otras
materias.
En este programa de violín, la motivación, es la prioridad; cultivar y
mantener el amor inato de los niños hacia la música.
Los ya 68 alumnos en la ciudad, se presentan dos veces al año en el
auditorio de Bellas Artes de San MIguel de Allende.
El estudio de un instrumento musical en la vida de los niños es de un
valor
inigualable, ya que enseña habilidades y valores tales como:
-La autodiciplina; la responsabilidad
-La confianza en sí mismos; la valentía
-El pensamiento crítico, la capacidad analítica, la memoria
-El pensamiento creativo; la imaginación, la inventiva
-El valor del trabajo arduo; la tenacidad, la perseverancia y la
determinación, la destreza, la paciencia
-El valor del trabajo en equipo; el compañerismo
-La sensibilidad y el amor por las artes; la apreciación
...en un aprendizaje para toda la vida.
Esta clases son impartidas por la maestra Marcela Garza, quien tiene
15 años
de experiencia en enseñanza musical, piano y violín, para niños.
